I am working on my application on OptomCAS. I have about 3,700 combined hours work experience in an Optometry private practice and at Mayo Clinic in Optometry and VitreoRetinal departments. I am a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.

My GPA is about a 3.1 but with my last semester of undergrad being a 3.9. Yeah, I thought I could make friends and forget about studying my first few semesters. Learned from my mistakes though. I graduated a few years ago and have gained a stronger work ethic and have more determination to succeed now. I am retaking some courses this semester, but since I moved when I married, they are at a different college. My OAT is planned for late October.

Are there certain schools that favor work experience related to the field more than others? If so, I'd like to make sure I send my application to them. Or any suggestions on what schools I should be applying to with my stats?

I was also active in clubs and volunteering in college and did eye screenings in Jamaica. I am active in my community.

Thanks.

A lot of programs will consider the fact that your GPA improved in the later portion of your undergrad years...Many progams understand that you're still "figuring things out" in the first few semesters of undergrad, so as long as you improve as time progresses, and just do well on your OAT and I think that you will be good...

What do schools think about working at an eyeglass store or lenscrafters? Do schools like that? or it doesn't count because its not directly with optometrists?
