I would like any input from ODs that have gone through the residency application, interview, and program itself.

Personally, I would like to go through a residency for the experience that I would obtain. If I were to open a private practice, realistically, would this experience really help me? I've read somewhere that residency would be beneficial for "job security" as many VA hospitals would only consider ODs that have completed a residency.

How are school residencies different from other residencies? Please reply if you have had any experiences!!

Optometry is a health-care profession concerned with eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems and vision information processing in humans. Optometrists are trained to diagnose and treat eye diseases such as infections and glaucoma.

Thanks Captain Obvious but what does this have to do with residencies? lol

think its someone spamming, getting posts up so they can link the crap they sell.

I shadowed an OD specializing in cornea in contact lenses who went through a residency. I also shadowed a low vision who went through a residency. from their experiences, i think i want to specialize and go through a residency. but i am interested in finding out more info too abou thow relevant a residency program is.

also shadowed a pediatric OD, but she didnt go through a residency. she said that she gained the experience by working in a clinic that specialized in peds after graduating from opt school, rather than going through a residency. she did however say if she were to graduate now, she would for sure go through a residency..

shadowed a doc who did a residency in pediatrics, said it was a great experience but nothign that helped advance her career

she was practicing in canada though
