Hi everyone,
I am a student hoping to apply next month to optometry school, but wanted to know what my chances are of getting in. My GPA is a 3.36, but unfortunately I have a C in calculus along with C+s in ochem 1 and biochem. I've received As in physics 1 and 2, and got As and Bs in my other science classes. I have shadowed 20+ hours and am doing an internship at a vision therapy clinic, along with numerous other extra curricular activities. Given I do well on the OAT, do I still have a good shot at getting into optometry school with the few Cs?
Thanks!

I've posted about this before, but asking about your chances prior to having an OAT score is pretty useless. Yes, you'll have a chance in getting in with C's if you do really well on your OAT. It's like a teeter-totter, you have to balance out the C's you got.

I applied with a 3.00 with quite a few C's but I also scored in the top 93rd percentile for the OAT and got into all the schools I interviewed at (UHCO, UAB, and SCO).

Take your OAT and then get back to us.

Score a 320 or above on the OAT and you'll be getting interviews. Your GPA is pretty much the average score for most schools so I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure you score well on the OAT, apply early, and if they ask about the classes you struggled in be prepared to explain what happened.
