Oral-B vs. Sonicare

Does anyone here have an opinion on which would be the better brush...the Oral-B 7850 or the Sonicare 7300?

I know a good 'ol fashioned toothbrush can work just fine...just looking to upgrade.

I got the Oral B 7000 for x-mas. I absolutely LOVE it.

Oral B sent a rep to Temple Dental a while back... the freshmen class got a free 3D Excel... ive used it for a couple of months and i can say its a pretty well built product (made by Braun Germany).

i found Sonicare hard to use.

also, the claim about cleaning "beyond the bristles"
is bull crap. if you look into their study on how they
"proved" this, you will see their dishonest marketing tactics.

Don't totally trash the sonicare, I've got a practice full of patients with great perio who swear buy the sonicare 😍

Plus, no matter what type of electric cleaning system your patients are using, they'll help keep your overhead lower since the ones that love the electrics almost always refuse the tooth brush you give to them at hygiene visits😀 .

Too bad for me though that the quantity of toothbrushes my office gets is tied into the number of sample tubes of crest we order and discounted further by being on a whitestrips yearly plan too.

i'm sure many people find sonicare effective.

i'm just pointing out that one of their marketing claims is misleading.

I honestly think that the key to ANY electric toothbrush and its ultimate benchmark of success(i.e. very good perio on the vast majority of folks that use it) is that the brush(whatever type doesn't matter) have a timer. People inherently feel guilty if they stop before the timer does, and hence they're brushing longer and getting better result, which is what we're realy after

if you want to brush like a dentist use ORAL B....... sonicare works but many people don't like the technology.

I see that the Oral B seems to be the favorite but to play a little devils advocate; My girlfriend uses the Braun and I use the Sonicare (can get 2 @ Costco for $89...not a dentist yet so I had to buy) She has had 2 cavities since she bagan using the Braun and I have never had one. Of course genetics as well as technique play big parts in this. I really think that either toothbrushes will get the job done just fine.

One question I have is, what kind of floss are you guys using? I find that the glide is OK buy I don't feel that it really removes plaque/mineral deposits (I have a problem with my lower front anteriors due to my salivary glands). Is the unwaxed stuff better for this type of job?

I tried the Oral-B Satin Floss after reading about it in one of Gavin's posts. I like it. Its kinda like plastic and keeps its form when you use it. Really good stuff. So far I like all of Oral-B's products.

I'm tired of brushing my teeth. $89 for the Sonicare is too expensive and the brush my dentist gave me wore out after only 5 years of use. Anyone have an ethical problem with doing an elective full mouth extraction on me so I can save 5 minutes twice a day?

I actually heard there was a study that said the waxed floss removed plaque just as well as the unwaxed. Frankly, that seems hard to believe. And I'm too lazy to search for that study...
