  1. Fellow [Any Field]
So in anticipation of finding out my oral board date I wanted to ask about people's experience with different study materials. I have read the previous posts regarding prep but wanted something more recent.
1) Has anyone used Big Red? Seems like after taking the written the examiners were specifically looking for questions not covered in Big Blue.
2) I have a copy of the Ho book. Any use?
3) Yao?
4) Knocking out oral boards?
5) Board stiff?
6) something else?
Thank you for your help.

Check out the Ultimate Board Preps Practice Sets. There are six books containing 48 full mock oral exams and 48 extra topic questions. The questions are all followed by answers. I think the best way to study for the oral boards is to practice organizing and verbalizing answers at the same time that you are reviewing the info. The full set of 6 Practice Sets is very complete.

1. I have it, ended up not wasting time with it. Much worse than Ho, in my opinion.
2. Great book for starters. I used a 10 year-old version, supplemented by the Anesthesia Guide (excellent handbook) for up-to-date information.
3. Worth reading the chapters that are also in Ho, or as an alternative. (Don't waste time with rare stuff like transplant etc.)
5. Good to get an idea, especially if you have a lot of time. There are also other similar books on Amazon.
6. Nothing replaces the real mock exams with colleagues/board examiners; you should aim for 20+.

P.S. Passed the exam on the first try.
P.P.S. Sorry for the late reply. I did not notice the date of the OP.

Best $600 I've ever spent!

Yep. It's not enough by itself, but it's extremely useful since almost every question is answered in that "yes, because" or "no, because" format that you need to be familiar with for the orals.
