how important is it to know drug dosages? in almost all situations where you are dosing a medication that you would not use every day, you would reference something like epocrates, etc. are you supposed to be able to pull out dosages, for example, an antidote for some toxidrome? or is only necessary to know what it is and say i will speak with pharmacy or reference such and such prior to giving the medicine?

I don't think you'd fail any case by not knowing a dose, as long as you say that you'd look it up and know where to find it. The way that not knowing a dose could result in failing would be to guess, and guess incorrectly.

You have to know ACLS and other resuscitation medication dosages. You probably should know common dosages and special cases, such as meningitic doses of antibiotics or magnesium for pre/eclampsia.

You don't need to know how to dose antizol.

I think a lot of it comes down to how you present yourself, and I would tell you having your approach/flow down cold matters more than doses. AKA - if you sound like you know what you're doing, they won't waste your time on asking up follow up questions on the doses of your meds.

That being said - by the time you take oral boards, you hopefully have developed your own medical repertoire of drugs (antibiotics, RSI, anaphylaxsis) with doses intact and can deftly insert them into your patter.

Sorry if this was covered somewhere else but I couldn't seem to locate the information in any of the resources sent out or on a internet search.
Any idea what time the afternoon session ends? I'm aware each session is supposed to take about 5 hours but I couldn't locate what time they are considered over. Any help appreciated.

This! I was shocked at some of the stuff they didn't ask me about. You should know dosages, but don't offer them unless prompted. Same for procedures--if you need to do a procedure, just ask the nurse to prepare for ___ procedure. The examiner may just tell you the procedure is complete and have you move on, although obviously you should be prepared to describe the details if asked.

The afternoon session (at least on Monday) ends at 5:20 pm.
