Oregon Externships?

Hello! I'm a second year at Oregon State looking into externships for this summer (and thinking ahead to my clinical year, which will start in June 2027 - even if I don't apply for anything yet, I would love to have some idea of where I might go). I'm interested in GP, shelter medicine, and exotics. No experience in emergency so also hoping to eventually gain experience there. It would be amazing to make some money this summer (especially as I am already doing RAVS which will take a chunk out of my finances) but I would do an unpaid externship if it was the right thing.

I would so appreciate any pointers! I've searched around on this forum a bit but haven't found anything mentioned in the PNW 🙂

If you're hoping for some type of paid externship, I know some corporate places offer a stipend during your externship. Banfield and VCA come to mind but I'm sure there are others too.

Honestly, make a list of the areas you'd like to be in, and then a list of the clinics in those areas. Cold email/call them asking about externships. Those who are owned by corporations and have their externs go through corporate will give you the right email link to sign up. Others will connect you with whoever in the practice manages them.
