I haven't taken any organic lab yet, do you think I should take the lab the summer I plan on studying for the mcat or do you think I should just study for the mcat without taking the lab. ... at my school orgo lab is just one 2 credit lab, it combines orgo 1 and 2.

Not sure how difficult your lab might be, but organic lab techniques are pretty important, its a lot easier to understand how distillation works when you've actually done a distillation, same with any other technique. If its an easy class I would say take it, if its tough, decide based on how well you think you can cope.
My school also has a very difficult Organic lab. I would hesitate to take it over the summer.
Orgo lab isn't really necessary for the MCAT. You just need to understand simple concepts like simple distillation, fractional distillation, extraction, crystallization, chromatography...
You can just study these topics from the book.

Organic lab can only be so difficult, relax. And I go to an institution with a pretty good chemistry program and our labs are hell. Just make sure you read over the lab procedures before lab and understand the principles behind each method and you'll be golden for the MCAT. Good luck!

Hey, yeah orgo lab is only two credits at my school as well...should be worth more! I would say it depends on what other obligations you have going on during that summer (work etc.). I personally regret taking a summer class during my MCAT studies and am now taking the MCAT in January (after initially hoping to have gotten it out of the way this August). As long as you think you can understand the concepts and techniques of orgo lab via textbook and maybe look over notes from a friend who has taken the class then you should be fine. Good luck 🙂
