While going through the Kaplan book, i feel there arent really enough diagrams to help you look at things. The focus is mainly on just terms. There are a whole a lot of facts.

Is the DAT basically just a test of facts?

I really am having trouble concentrating on studying. I read a few pages and doze off. People here say the Kaplan book is enough for the DAT. Do I just read through it from page one and go til the end?

How did you guys organize your self in studying ALL THIS INFORMATION?? Did you study 1 ch a day, a chapter from every section a day? What did you guys do??

well i just started about 5 or so days ago..what i've been doing is trying to do at least one chapter of each section a day..what i do is as im reading it i'll like paraphrase everything they're saying and write it down..i figure at this rate i'll be able to get through all of natural sciences in about 2 weeks (i do about 5 hours a day)..we'll see though..does anybody have any other suggestions? my biggest worry right now is that there's no way im going to remember all of this stuff when the test comes (July 29) i guess the only way to do it is continual repetition..fun stuff huh?

to the OP,

yes i really think that the KAPLAN book is enough. most people who have done well on the DAT will tell you that they studied for 2 months.

i personally took the kaplan course (while still in school) and thought i'd be ready in 2-3 months. 3 months later, i found out i still had a lot to read.

what did get me ready was the second kaplan course. this time, i didn't have school. basically, i told myself its now or never. i studied 8hrs/day 7 days/week (including holidays and weddings and birthdays) for 2 1/2 months straight. every night, i reviewed what i had learned that week. the things that i had trouble with, i rewrote them on a page of paper which i reviewed every night.

seriously, just suffer through that 2 months and you will be ready!

good luck

What I did was to go through the whole Kaplan book once and write out note cards for myself: that way, not only did I get the advantage of learning by writing things out, but I also had self-written and self-organized note cards to flip through 5 minutes before the test. 😀

I color-coded the cards based on subject matter and color-coded the ink I wrote in based on what type of information it was (e.g., a location, a process, a factoid, etc.). That seemed to work pretty well, for me at least.

Best of luck!!
