For all of you geniuses who have rocked the DAT....Where there lots of picky questions in the Orgo section? I thought I knew this stuff, but I just finished the orgo section in destroyer and holy crap I am scared now. Were there problems on Claisen rearrangement, the real complicated Diels-Alders ( 4 + 2 cycloaddition), hydride shifts, aldols? I know the basics well, and general reactions, but destroyer goes into detail on some of the trickier orgo reactions. My time is precious now, and I need to review GChem more and read some bio. Please someone who has taken their dat recently, shed some light or pm me. Is is pretty general and basic (sn1/sn2/e1/e2/eas/nucleophilic substitution) or should I study those reactions above in more detail? Thanks!! 🙂

Im in the same bout as you. People seem to say that it is very basic. I hope so. Ill have a better opinion after I take it tomorrow!

My ochem professors would cringe if they saw how easy the ochem DAT questions were. SN1/SN2, E1/E2, polar effects, carboxylic acid derivatives, EAS just the basics. I scored a 29 in ochem and spent about 15min on it. If you know kaplan you will have no problem.

i haven't taken the dat yet, but from what people say in this forum, and from doing topscore and achiever AND some of the destroyer...i would say destroyer is WAY too detailed. let me put it this way, i scored 25 on dat achiever ochem #1 and then i missed 23 out of 50 on the first 50 problems of achiever. if you know destroyer though, you will absolutley kill the dat. DEAD!

i had diels alder question and a 5 step synthesis problem in my exam. if you know every thing on kaplen flash card and you know them alittle more you will be fine.

I was able to take the DAT and acheive an average score (18) on organic chem, without having taken the class. The only thing I did was read Organic chem books and did LOTS of practice problems. So don't worry even someone who hasen't taken the class can still do well! Good luck
