Do we need to know the Mechanisms or the individual steps for the reactions?? Or is it enough to just know the reactants and end products?

You should be familiar with the most commonly seen mechanisms, their starting and finishing points, e.g., SN1/SN2/E1/E2, ether synth, Wittig, Clemmenson, aldol, etc. Knowing those mechanisms well will allow you to determine which starting reactants would be necessary to arrive to a particular product. I didn't see any individual step questions. DAT Destroyer really helped with the orgo section of the test.
