    hi,

from the 2nd RAOD MAP, #138, a benzene ring has an ether(CH2OC2H5) and a reagent that he used was an excess of HI, heat which gave a benzene ring with CH2I + C2H5I...this is something new to me....can anyone explain it...what is the name of the reagent, reaction?...

    Thanks!

This is simply a reaction that results in cleavage of the ether molecule:
