I was wondering, for those of you who've taken the Kaplan course or the Orgoman bootcamp, is it alright to take those if I've forgotten most of my science stuff and want to take that as a 'refresher' just in time for the DATs?...(like i have close to no recollection of what I have learned for the past semesters😕)
I've looked at threads and some said you need a solid background in sciences and other say you don't. I just don't want to fork out and waste so much money on an alternative route. Also, I've seen a few threads regarding Kaplan, but they were mixed as well...

This dental school thing is a bullet through my wallet.

-Thanks in advance

Hi There
from what I heard from people who have taken the orgoman camp, It's the author of the book who actually teaches the class and he has instructors for math reading and PAT. From what I know you don't need a solid background on sciences since he goes over everything. You get booklets on basic stuff before you tackle the destroyer. I'm thinking about taking the camp too. Regarding Kaplan I heard good things about the blue books and flash cards and their online notes.
This dental thing is a bullet in all our wallets.
If you hear anything about orgoman or kaplan plz let me know
good luck to you

I've taken both, and although some people swear by Kaplan, I got nothing out of it. Kaplan teaches you how to take the exam... but it doesn't teach you the material. Orgoman actually teaches you what you need to know.
As with anything though, he teaches you everything but you MUST study on your own in order to ace your DAT... you may also still have to buy Crack the PAT because like the other poster said he really doesn't cover that... or math really... But that's the only thing in my opinion that he needs to improve.
Good luck! =)

Thanks. im just wondering , how much was the orgoman tutorin g total anyways? based on his scedule of 2 days a week for about 4 monhs, it comes roughly to about 2k right? damn..

orgoman bootcamp is def. the way to go man the author of the destroyer teaches you one on one and it isn't some sort of corporate teaching method its straight and to the point and will probably help you much more than kaplan would ......you can probably work out some sort of payment plan with him unlike kaplan and if ur nearby its better .....you can always buy kaplan stuff if you really need to but i think this is the best way to go talk to others on the forum who have taken it im sure they will agree.....best of luck

I think Kaplan class is a waste of money....maybe the online stuff is helpful...but thats it.

I really dont think anyone needs to spend thousands on preparing for the DAT.

I used the kaplan BB to get a base knowledge which I supplemented with my Biology text book (campbell & reece) and chad's videos (which I would have paid 5x the price for his material) for $45 or so. Chad's videos are so helpful in ochem and genchem...the way he explains things allows everyone to relate, which is way better than ANY kaplan tutor. I also used Kahn's Academy which is FREE on youtube and has lots of awesome bio/orgo/genchem/math videos.

I bought every orgoman book Dr. Romano made (DAT Dest, Math Dest, and Organic Odyssey for around $300) and went through each book several times until I felt comfortable. The explanations in the book are very helpful and detailed and if I ever had a problem I just asked someone on SDN or chad's forum.

for test practicing, I did Top Score (3 tests) and DAT achiever (3 tests) and CDP (11 PAT tests) to build up my stamina (all for around $200).

I believe there is more than enough material out there to study for the DAT and not have to take a class. If you are discipline and can spend the time by yourself to learn the material, you will be more than fine.

Total cost: around $600
I ended up with a 20/20/21.
