Hello all,
I am a third year dental student at good big ten school; top third in my class; ~3.5 GPA . . . I've been published and have done some extensive research the past two years. I was wondering if anyone knew what the approximately requirements are for getting into Ortho school . . . and where I could probably get in. Is any of this informatoin published anywhere?

Thanks a ton!

Approximate Requirements:

1. Walk on water
2. Multiply Bread and fish
3. Resurrect a dead guy
4. No.1 in your class
5. Engaged to the program directors daughter
6. Be a 3 generation legacy to the ortho dept.

That oughta get you an interview.

No, but seriously.....I have no idea.

 That's pretty funny.

SD-user, i'm a newbie to dental school, but I hear getting into ortho is pretty tough. Being in the top third is great, but I think most successful ortho applicants rank higher than that. What are your part I scores?

Part I - 92%

You got what I got on Part I and I'm a an excellent school also. I wouldn't apply to an ortho program with a 92......but who knows, might as well give it a shot if that's what you really want. WHat is your school's track record?

In any event, good luck my friend.....takes a lot of courage to go for ortho.

a senior at my school recently got into Ortho somewhere with a 92 NDBE part 1. Dont give up and be positive. If you want it bad enough you will prob get it. There is always a year fellowship/internship to increase your chance. Good luck.

don't forget about those OEC programs... 😉

i know a couple with mid 80s so be confident

In my opinion, if you are only in the top third of your class, you're gonna need higher than a 92 on the boards. I'm not saying its not possible... just saying it'll be a lot harder to get in.

Can you apply to multiple specialities at one time? Say if one is interested in peod and ortho, can that person apply to both? I imagine it probably would look kind of bad huh?

They say not to... but I know someone who applied to omfs and pedo and got into pedo. I wouldn't though...

i think you should have a decent chance w/a 92, assuming that you mean upper top third rather than top third on your rank. but apply!!!
best of luck
now is the time to seriously scan the internet for program websites
make a table of who wants what and when
and sign up for the GRE sometime in june
also, get ready for pass

ps- pass sent out a satifaction survey for those who used it last year and MAN did i tear them a new one. it felt good.

The down side is that you have to work for them SEVEN years! around $140K/year.
