I came across a practice website in Colorado today listing an orthoptist as providing pre and post cataract and refractive care. This is the first time I'm hearing of that. Is this the same level of observation an OD would provide?

Could a surgeon co-manage with an orthoptist?

A quick Google search and I’m pretty sure I found the practice. It’s probably a weird misprint. They have a good number of ODs, but none of them are listed as comanaging with the MDs in the group, which I imagine they do.

Agree, a quick google surgery pretty much identifies the practice. I think this person you are referring to is COMT and Orthoptist. There are many groups that employ COMTs ( or "clinicians") to manage routine post-op cataract care. It frees the MDs for consults and surgery.

I didn't realize providers outside of PAs or ODs could provide post op care like this. Thanks for updating me.
