Osteopathic and Calculus? Please help?

DO schools usually require basic math. Retake the D, not completely required as it is not usually a pre-req (calculus by its self), but it raises a red flag.

I got a D in calc as well. But, I also had a good reason, and a strong history of As in upper level math programs. It definitely came up in the interview, I'd retake it if you could.

Calc I is required for DO school, no necessarily calc II. I only took calc I. I could not deal with the regular class since it went too fast so I took it by correspondence and got a tutor. Maybe that is something you need to do to get the grade you need? I would retake the D, it just looks bad and in today's competitve atmosphere for both MD and DO you don't want any reason for instant rejection.

oh gosh...
I go excited for a second because I thought this would be a parody thread of

D.O. and "specialty " threads that have been posted recently.

very disappointed.

Nope, plenty of people get into DO schools and MD schools without calculus 1. Admittedly they will need at least one semester of math, so college algebra, statistics, and up will satisfy the requirement.

That being said you may benefit from taking calc 1 & 2 for some areas of medical research.

I'm sure there is an "OMM vs. calculus" thread somewhere. 🙂

Well, when I applied calc I was required. That must have changed.

There is a reason osteopathic schools do not include in math in the science gpa, thus it is of much less importance than other areas of your application. Don't worry about it.

No, Math is not in the SciGpa because Math is not a science, nor does it adhere to scientific principles, rather it dictates scientific principles and logic.

Haha... yes, calculus grade versus success in medical school. To the OP: retaking it is not a bad idea, but probably not essential to get into some schools.

I believe a few schools either require or "strongly suggest" calculus. I thought it a great pity math was not part of science GPA as I was a math major, but c'est la vie.

Why can you only do the retake at the CC you originally took the class? You can do retakes anywhere you know. As long as the class is similar enough to be considered a retake it doesn't matter where you do the retake.

Calculus is not required at all, but it is a good idea to at the very least have college algebra or statistics. Also, you have to email aacomas about retaking classes through quarter and semester conversion, as I believe like Triage that to retake a class under semester grading, you must also take the retake at a semester grading school. Worst comes to worst, retake at a CC.
