I was wondering how the Osteopathic Internships work. For example, PCOM has the traditional rotating internships (which I understand) but they also have the specialized internships in fields like Derm, General Surgery and Otolaryn, etc. Does doing an internship for somthing like otolaryn make it easier to get an residency in that field the next year? Do you get these internships through the DO match? Do you go back into the match the following year, after completing the internship????

From what I hear they are doing away with the TRI soon, so the first year of residency will be called the "intern year" like it is in the allopathic world.
I hope they do this soon, I think the TRI's are a stupid idea and serve no real purpose...
