Does anyone have any insight on OSU's and NYU's programs? I've heard some pretty bad stuff about NYU's program, but don't know if they're just rumors. Someone told me that students can be kicked out after their first year if they don't do so hot and D4 have to stay after they graudate to finish their clinical hours because the school doesn't have enough clinical seats...I'm a tad worried.

Any insight on OSU or NYU???

i have heard the same thing..can anyone shed some light on this?

do you have interviews to both of these schools or something?

I can respond to NYU. Those rumors about NYU aren't true. I went to NYU interview and they sure clarified many rumors. They don't kick people out if you didn't do so hot the first year. The specific amount is 4 failed classes in ONE semester. If you really fail 4 classes in ONE semester.....well you shouldn't be in dental school. If you fail 3 or below, you won't be kicked out. So you might wonder where did the rumor came from. It's really from the people that failed 4 classes... As you know, NYU has a large studnet body and they accept many applicants ( in terms of number). Out of that big number, of course there would be people that just never belonged in dental school. NYU is NOT the place that would hold your hands and walk you through 4 yrs of dental school. They provide you the top technology, facility, faculties, and opportunities. It is up to you to make you 4 yrs worth it. As to the rumor about D4 students, I've never heard of that. NYU has the highest number of dental chair. They have 600-700 chairs. Of course, that takes into the consideration that they have many students as well. But the number of chairs certainly won't be much of a problem. Our tour guide was a D4 student and he never mentioned he had to stay over to do clinics.
Hope this helped.

K so far in my first year I have found NYU to not want their students to fail out. Examples include even if u do fail 4 classes u remediate them, if u fail the remediation, u also can take that year again, but i hear it never happens. If you fail remedial after you fail that year of dental school then i think it says maybe dental school isnt for you? The curriculum is actually really good so far, they definately dont come out to want you to fail, i heard they even emailed some students that got 70s on the anatomy exam just to make sure they were okay, even though it wasnt a fail. The exam schedules are not set to screw us over but to make us do well, its not easy easy, but its also not hard. You can only fail at NYU or any other dental school if you dont go to class and you dont study AT ALL. I seriously also was like you guys last year, hearing these sdn rumors, but seriously its not true. Im really having a great year, material isnt hard, its just alot at once and its not that hard to get really good marks if u study and work hard.
