Ohio State and Virginia Commonwealth are two programs I definitely plan to rank highly, but I'm having a hard time with just how high. OSU has a great inpatient and EMG experience but I worry that you do so many EMGs that you get just a smattering of the rest of MSK. The spine center and new MSK center looked great, but they're electives as of now. None of their attendings feel comfortable letting DOs do manual treatments on their pts. VCU seems very well rounded with a great chance to land one of their fellowships. Dr. Cifu has lots of connections. The residents were some of the happiest I've met. I think the towns are similar...better weather and outdoor activities in Richmond, but Columbus seems to offer a little more culture and nightlife. I'm not sure which town is better for a single guy. "Well-rounded" is my top priority because I don't really know what I wan't to do yet in PM&R. I felt like both places are right up there with RIC, Kessler, Spaulding just without all the hype and in less expensive towns. I'd love to hear some comments.

I really liked OSU as a program, and liked the city of Columbus as well. I was looking at places in the Short North district if I went to residency there. Good mix of people for the single guy as well (OSU undergrads if that is your thing, bit of an older crowd either downtown or north of campus).

At least from this year's interview-ees, they felt that the Spine Center was going to be as good as ours once it fully get's implemented into their residency. I think there was a little concern in regards to the amount of EMGs and how much time it eats out of the rest of MSK....but I don't think you get better EMG training anywhere.

My 2 cents, granted with limited VCU exposure, minus my med school interview back in the day

Many of the Ohio State faculty lectured at the AAP last year, and I was impressed with them. And, of course, the quality of their EMG training is well known. I can't intelligently compare them to MVC/VCU, but Ohio State is certainly a very strong and well rounded program
