Hello All~
I have a few questions. I am a bit confused, and any help would be greatly appreciated? Does anyone know if Ohio State has formally started a waitlist? If so, at this point in the game, is it better to be on the waitlist, or to be defferred? Does anyone know if a lot of people that are deferred by OSU are rejected? Or is it noramlly deferred then waitlisted or accepted?

If anyone has been waitlisted by OSU, can you mention when you were?

I am trying to gauge my position. OSU is undoubtedly my number one choice!!! I was deferred after my interview, and it has been over a month, and I have yet to hear anything....I don't know what to do...ANY ADVICE?

Thanks

Since it's been a month since your interview you should be fine with calling the school. Be nice on the phone and be sure to say you're calling because OSU is your top choice. Since they're your #1 you could also send a letter of intent. The letter certainly could not hurt you.

I sent a letter of intent right after my interview....Anyone else? nobody is waitlisted at OSU, or knows anything about being waitlisted/deferred?

HELP!

I interviewed on Dec. 17th and was deferred (waitlisted) on the 21st. I have not really heard anything except for monthly updates about the University and an email from my student interviewer promoting the school.

I emailed them after I was deferred and asked to explain they process more and this is what they told me.
We do not rank our waitlist, or deferred category as we refer to it.
It is possible to gain acceptance or to have a change in status
anytime between now and the first day of class.

As you probably know, we can offer a seat in our class to a candidateas long as that candidate has not attended another school's
orientation. If you are currently holding an acceptance and we offer
you a seat in our class, you could accept our offer but would be
required to withdraw from the one school where you are holding.

Please be assured that your application will continue to receive
active and on-going consideration. We will go to our alternate list
once the class size falls below the 210 expected entering students.

You are welcome to send in additional information, reference letters,
and updates if you wish. If you send them by email, I can let you know
that we got them.
There isn't going to be a whole lot of movement until May 15th when those with multiple acceptances have to choose one. Historically they have quite a bit of movement off their waitlist, last year they ended up accepting like 400 to eventually fill their whole class. As many people have posted in other threads no one really knows how UNRANKED waitlists work so your guess is as good as mine.

Good luck!

I too am defered at OSU, and I interviewed in October. They defer a lot of people. I called the admisions office earlier this week and there are currently 267 defered applicants. The peson I talked to also said that now that interviews are over there will likely be no one taken off the defered list until after May 15. Last year they did not take anyone off their waitlist after May 15. The year before they accepted 13% off their waitlist. Unfortunatly, with 267 defered people, I do not expect to be getting an acceptance. Hope this helps.

Okay, so during the interview, I was under the impression that a deferral was not a waitlist....as a matter of fact, the dean of admissions specifically stated that there was not a waitlist at the time. He said that you could be accepted, rejected, or defferred (decision pending)...I was under the impression that if you are waitlisted, that would be a status change, and they would notify you of such. Is this correct? Or is a defferal an automatic waitlist? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
