I have got a few interviews so far, some from schools that I would love to go to, and I also have an interview at Ohio State. Not that it isn't a great school, I am just unfamiliar with it. What does OSU's dental school have to offer? Is it worth the travel time (I live in WI) and cost?

I have worked at the dental school at Ohio State for the past 3 years and love it here. Dental classes are not too small but also not too large. Ohio State has a great history of tradition and excellence and I know from working in the school that students get the patients they need. There is also a lot of research within the school as well as many specialty programs. Because there are a lot of specialty programs, students get experience with a lot of dental facets in the four-year program. I personally work in the Implant Clinic, and we have students come up daily with their patients and they get to help assist our residents. I think Columbus is a great city and I think it would be worth it to at least make the trip and see it for yourself 🙂 It's my top choice, but I am also in-state and have attended OSU for the past 4 years for undergraduate studies!

Hey MorgAnn, just out of curiosity, have you received an interview invite yet? Or have any idea of what's going on with then? I'm also in-state. All of the people on here and pre-dents that have received interviews seem to be out of state. (Yes, I know that doesn't mean any in-state people haven't been invited!)

No I haven't. Hopefully today or tomorrow? I believe only OOS have received invites so far! 🙂 Good luck!

Haha good stuff! I've been freaking out because their website said something about only sending out invites on Sept 8 and 15th and some date in Nov, and it's a little bit past the September dates! But I guess they're behind. Good luck to you too! 👍

There's a much larger pool of OOS applications for OSU (and probably a trend at most schools) so IS applicants prob aren't as noticeable. I would check Pre-dents to see where people are from.

Looking forward to the 8th of October!

Go BUCKS!

All I know about OSU is that their first years started this week! While at Indiana, our first years started July 6th. Take it for whats its worth, but I think we get more/longer breaks throughout the year.

It is because OSU is on quarters, not semesters like most schools. But, the entire university is switching over to semesters starting Summer 2012!

Im an osu grad...and i had a great education! apply apply apply!

How's the new dean, Dr. Jim Tressel?

D1 here, it's totally worth the money to come check out the school. I was in a similar situation as you last year, Ohio State was my 7th interview invite and I was highly considering not going due to cost of travel. Luckily my friend who knew more about OSU talked me into going, best decision I ever made. At least go to find out more about the school and enjoy the interview event, they treat you like a rock star there! (awesome food, free stuff) The new dean is terrific (Dr. Lloyd), he is very student oriented and is terrific at fund raising, OSU has a bright, bright future with him at the helm.

I'm a D1 as well. To be honest, I mainly here for the in-state tuition and proximity to my home. But it does seem to be a great program and I really like living in Columbus. Students and faculty also seem to be friendly.

I spoke with the new dean and he plans to build a new dental school building, but it probably won't be done until after you would graduate, or maybe during your last year. Postle hall is antiquated and needs a renovation or replacement.
