Who else plays? I pretty much just play with friends and whatnot, $5 buy ins so usually pots of $35. What grinds my gears is that every game I've played, I was chip leader at one point (holding 60-70% of the chips) but when there are like 3 players left, every single time I start slowly losing the chips, and eventually losing it all.

I could never really get into it. Played it a little when World Poker Tour first came on TV and was a really big deal, but meh. If you really know what you're doing it's best casino odds, especially since it's you vs other players, not vs the house. I stick to blackjack though.

I used to play all the time. Mostly $25 buy-in cash games online, though I would play the ocassional tournament. I did pretty well at that limit, ended up by a couple hundred, but everytime I tried to move up in limits I kept getting smacked by down better players and my insufficient bank roll (20+ buyins my a@@ 😉 Eventually just stopped playing and cashed out all my money.

Let me revive this thread... I love the game! Played mainly online... usually put 50 on the table and grind my way to 500 or so. Not bad for 3 hours work. Online there are some dummy's that play... and if you play tight enough, you can get some big money.

As for Home games... My classmates/colleagues P1-P3 year had a poker game that went on weekly $20 buy in with 10 dollar rebuys up until blinds were 100-200 ( started with 1500 chips usually 8 people show) over all good times during school! I loved the occasional payout as well as the time away from thinking about school.

Going up to Colorado's mini-Vegas (Blackhawk) tomorrow. I excel at tourneys, which kinda sucks because it takes about 4 hours minimum to finish those games. I give props to cash players who can sit for an hour and make a few hundred bucks.

I wish there were some legit online places to play. The only one I found recently is Lock Poker, but it seems a bit sketchy. Anyone know of any good ones?

Played in multiple World Series of Poker Tournaments in Vegas and Atlantic City. I'm from New York, so I mostly play at home games and small tourneys in Queens and Brooklyn for now. After the end of Pokerstars, Full Tilt, and a few others, I haven't found another online poker site I trust. I played a lot of online poker back in undergrad, however. It was fun while it lasted.

I play in the New York Free Poker league, I finished #6 in the Top 50 tournament last week. Unfortunately, only #1 gets the prize, which is a WPT seat.

PM me the home games and whatnot that you go to.

I played for a "living" while in pharmacy school, which basically means I worked in a pharmacy once a week to stay on the payroll but got all my income from poker. It's a grind. I would love to play online still, but the ol' gov't took that option away for us... at least for now.

If you find yourself with most of the chips early, that usually means you're playing too loose and just getting lucky. Then as time goes on, the better-skilled players will start wearing you down by playing patiently. Just work on your short-handed play and you will learn how to finish off the table to take home the payday. 🙂

I've gotten a lot better in the past year. Right now I'm pretty confident that I'd cash out in the WSOP. When I was at Midyear in New Orleans last year I was pickpocketed for $700.

Went to the casino, got $300 from the ATM, sat down at the poker tables for 2 hours and walked away with $2000+.

Are you using Lock? Or Carbon?

I played for a "living" as well when in was in undergrad... I was steady making 200-300 per day when I was on Full Tilt... I LOVED the "Rush"poker that they used to have!.. All I did was fold until I had QQ or Better... Then I would shove... I would see roughly 200 hands/hr. Those were the good old days... Unfortunately I don't have much to show for it, as I had a VERY expensive Girlfriend at the time... LOL

I use Lock... It's Legit! I do admit that getting my money was a little tough the first time (ie. had to send multiple emails to cashier) but they always emailed me back within the hour... And they were going through a change in their payout (currently western union)... But The past two transactions have been smooth! You should play on there. They have tourneys as well! How much do you usually play for in the tourneys?

It was nice but a lot of luck. I got pocket kings and pocket aces like at least 10 times in that setting.

Lol, that will get you some good money!!!! 🙂

Keep up the good work... What blinds are you playing?

I think I like 0.50/1 better than 1/2 right now, especially since I took a hard hit in 1/2 a few hours ago.

A-K off suit on the small blind, player 1 raised to $6, player 2 called, player 3 raised to $23, I reraised all-in to $66. Player 3 called, he had pocket 9s.

Board came out 3-3-6-6-J.

God damn, I hate A-K sooo much. I had about a 44% chance of winning in that scenario pre-flop. 24% on the flop, 13% on the turn.
