OU-OKC COM vs OU-SCM Tulsa

Hi!
I was recently accepted into both OU campuses (in OKC and the SCM in Tulsa). I am stuck in choosing my campus within 2 weeks, as I do not have ties to either city.

I am currently leaning towards Tulsa mainly because of the Bedlam clinic (we have our own patient panel) & smaller class size (I’m thinking less competition and more opportunities). I can’t really find cons for either campus, but would love any insight into choosing!

• Bedlam clinic
• Smaller class size
• Potentially more leadership opportunities (bc of small class)

OU OKC
Pros

• Rotations at OU med
• Larger class size

Congratulations on your acceptances! I ended up choosing SCM! From day one, they have felt more personable than the OKC campus. For me that was a big deal, because I wanted to feel supported instead of just another number. I felt like the small class size would give me more opportunities for leadership and support because you will know professors, admin, and classmates on a first name basis. Almost every student I have talked to is in atleast (usually more than one) leadership role because of the amount of opportunities available. The Bedlam Clinic was also a big pro for me for the experience and being able to put it on residency applications. I felt like it would also help with the transition to residency because you already have experience with having your own patient panel. Also, they have pretty good match rates for being so small. I have talked to students at SCM and even though it is community medicine focused, they really support any speciality interests. They also have a forum called ORDSA with active research projects, where you can simply put your name on it, so you don’t have to compete with anyone for research opportunities. I have also heard that if there is certain research/shadowing that isn’t available in Tulsa, we are able to reach out to OKC (I am not so sure how this works, but I read somewhere that a person was able to travel to OKC for some projects in her interested specialty). OKC definitely has some different pros depending on the person, but I felt like not a lot of people talked about SCM on the threads, so I shared more of the SCM pros. Hope that helps a little. I know the feeling of having to choose between the two so quickly, but honestly either choice will set you up for success in your future career. Congrats again!
