I was just wondering if any of you attend OUCOM, and if you do, how do you like it? I have heard some really good things about OUCOMS atmosphere, and am currently holding it as my 2nd choice for med school ... second only to Ohio State.

Thanks!

OU-COM had been my safety school, but once I visited the campus, it shot to the top. Of the four campuses I've visited, they had by far the best facilities, especially their OMM lab. Friendly vibe all over, and beautiful campus and town. Unfortunately, I don't think I can accept the contract that would force me to practice for 5 years in OH (I'm in IL) or else pay $50K, so I'm still looking around.

This Contract is somewhat of an issue of contention for potential OUCOM-ers. Oh, I am a current 1st year in case anyone was wondering. The contract does stipulate practice for 5 years BUT... if you do an AOA approved residency in Ohio you can knock time off of that. If your residency is an AOA approved primary care res., it is 1.5 years off per year of residency and all other residencies are 1 to 1. So you could, in fact, go through residency and end up not having to practice in Ohio at all.

As for a response to the OP, OUCOM is a GREAT school; one of the best in the country. We have great faculty, excellent facilities, everyone at the school has a great demeanor (they will openly tell you constantly that they are there primarily for the students), and the atmosphere here (at OUCOM and the surrounding area) is very comfortable. Before I came here last summer and did research, I told my wife I wouldn't consider going here because of the location. After I was here for a couple of weeks, I decided that I wasn't going to even interview anywhere else. Between the things I mentioned and the CORE system of hospitals, it is a winner. And if you're an Ohio resident looking for a quality osteopathic medical education, lok no further. Oh, my wife and I were Tenn residents before moving here (even though we grew up in NE OH), but we are going to be staying. It's not a bad place to live, even if not permanently.
