I'm an Ohio resident, considering going to Purdue in Indiana for pre-pharmacy. I know colleges usually prefer in-state students, but would going to Purdue for my undergrad help my chances at all getting into their Pharmacy school?

an advantage to going to purdue for pre-pharm would be the adcom's familiarity with the pre-pharm program. for instance, if you dominated a course that was known to be difficult at purdue, then that would stand out to purdue's adcom. also, letters of recommendation from purdue pre-pharm professors would carry more weight since adcom would be familiar with those professors. some of your pre-pharm professors might even be on the adcom.

of course, all this could work against you if you did only mediocre in purdue's pre-pharm program...

I'm not the best science student, but I do enjoy the subject, I guess I'm pretty.. err.. "mediocre" unfortunately.

Is there a big difference going to Purdue for pre-pharmacy rather than somewhere in-state (like Toledo / Cincinnati)?

Please correct me if I am wrong, Purdue has a higer standard than Cinci or Toledo which could work against me.
Suggestions on how I should decide w/c is the right choice for me would be much appreciated.

toledo is a good college, the average GPA of accepted students is around 3.8-3.9. and the science classes are quite tuff with alot of competition. but its a good program, they will make you earn your spot, and keep it once ur in.😀
good luck with ur decision. let me know if u have any questions.

doing mediocre at purdue probably wouldn't get you into purdue's pharmacy school, but the purdue name might get you into another pharmacy school. doing mediocre at a less known university would hurt your chances of admission to any pharmacy school because the competition is so high now.

so convince yourself you are an outstanding science student and dominate the pre-reqs at whatever school you go to. that is the take-home message.

why didn't you do a 0-6 program? just wondering...

hey bsps2007. why is ur Id bsps. are u doing a bsps. if u r wat school. and anything special like bsps and pharmacy adminstration. just wondering.

i'm not sure what you are asking, but i'm a bs pharmaceutical sciences major at campbell university.

Thanks very much for the responses!!
Purdue is still my number one choice for pre-pharm but I'm just kinda nervous that if I decide to attend Purdue for pre-pharm, and not do so well, it might hurt my chances at get into any pharmacy school.

I applied a little too late to ONU for their 0+6 and didn't get into their Pharmacy program. Plus my ACT and SAT scores really hurt me because they are "average" compared to other applicants who are mostly above avg.

One2Three, have you called Purdue either when you were applying or after your acceptance to ask them their stats in regards to students who attended Purdue for pre-pharm and who were subsequently accepted into their pharmacy program? I would say that would be your best bet in regards to knowing where you stand.

Best of luck!
