Hey guys, I am a Texas resident and applied to all three Texas dental schools last year but did not receive any acceptances. I'm planning on re-applying this cycle to OOS schools, but I needed some help deciding how many and which schools to apply to.

Biology (BS)
science GPA: 3.48
overall GPA: 3.64

DAT: 20AA/19TS/21PA

These are the schools I've added to my list so far:

1) baylor
2) houston
3) san antonio

4) ASDOH
5) Tufts
6) Virgina commonwealth
7) Marquette university
8) Maryland school of dentistry
9) Louisville school of dentistry
10) University of pittsburgh
11) Michigan
12) midwestern illinois
13) Case Western
14) nova
15) midwestern Arizona

(I added Tufts but I took physics at a community college, so I'm not sure if they'll overlook that). I also tried avoiding super expensive schools such as NYU to my list

Any and all advice is much appreciated, thanks!

Maybe put Roseman on their too. It's a private school so they don't pay too much attention to your state.

The following public schools also have a decent number of OOS slots:

Buffalo
Rutgers
UNLV
Kentucky
Minnesota
Colorado
West Virginia
Indiana

Use whatever that guide is published by the ADEA which tells you exactly how many OOS students are enrolled.

Take away ASDOH unless you can get at least 500+ hours and a letter of recommendation from a volunteer coordinator.

Add NYU as your safety school.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm actually thinking about cutting 3-4 schools out of my list just because it's so expensive to apply. However, I don't want to do that if my chances of getting into an out of state school aren't that high to begin with. What do you guys think?

Why do you think you didn't get in? Im applying to Texas and this makes me nervous because your stats are much better than mine.

UNLV has a class size less than 90...

Tufts is a very expensive school too, so I wouldn't necessarily put it on my list (or if you do, add NYU as well since they have a higher interview rate than most schools). I don't think I would necessarily put Michigan on it, but definitely add Temple and Touro.

just a note,

applying to schools OOS is harder than if you were applying instate.

because you didnt get into your In state schools last cycle, that might not bode well for you if you only apply to OOS schools.

Therefore, I suggest you apply to private schools like NYU, temple, BU, etc. because it will increase your chances of getting in. Unless you think youd rather not be a dentist than going to a more expensive private school

Add UDM, they're OOS friendly and a good school. Rest looks good.

Yep, I got flat out denied OOS. 3.8 o/sgpa 23 AA/TS

Yeah I heard they prefer IS applicants. I had a friend who was accepted last application cycle with similar stats and lives OOS but has insane extracurriculars. She was SO CLOSE in deciding to go to Rutgers. But Stony Brook took her off the waiting list towards the end.

Rutgers loves OOS applicants. I was accepted dec 1st but unfortunately my number 1 school gave me the call.

Definitely apply.

Can I ask which EC they had? Research, volunteering etc? I am OOS Texas resident considering Rutgers or Tufts
