There's a possibility I'm just massively overthinking this, but input is still appreciated...

I'm finishing up a year as a VAP and heading to another university for a position that starts in June. My contract at my VAP institution runs through the very end of July (when our summer session ends), but technically, we aren't salaried, per our annual pay, over the summer. Because pretty much all of the faculty teach during the summer (often, as in my case, 3 courses), what this essentially translates to is us getting "extra" salary during the summer semester. My new position starts in mid-June, but I'll still be teaching my summer (online) classes at my VAP institution until the summer semester ends in August

I want to list my VAP position as "August 2017-July 2018" and my new position "June 2018-present" on my CV, but would the overlapping dates for two positions in different regions of country look odd?

I wouldn't worry about it. Your CV should align with your university's HR record. People understand that overlap can occur.

not to worry...i teach, work full time, and freelance, all with long periods of overlap. no one has ever even noticed (though possibly due to the organization of my cv with separate headings for research, teaching, professional, etc). if anyone does notice, just be sure to tell them how much you are killing it while able to balance multiple positions.

Agree with others not to worry. Its also quite common for faculty to deliberately "retain" some affiliation after formally leaving for another job.

Nearly every researcher who leaves my dept moves to "adjunct" status for a window. Allows them to keep IRB accounts while projects are closed out, facilitates collaboration and data access, etc. No one is going to blink at a month of overlap.
