just wondering....

someone told me that overnight retail RPh's get 1.5X the hourly of day RPhs. That sounds too high to me, but if it is true I am switching to nights.

what are you hearing for overnight pay?

I only know how Walgreens graveyard rph gets paid in S. CA. It may vary from state to state but basically, you work 10 hours shift (10pm to 8am) for 7 days and you are off for next 7 days. Even though you work 70 hours for 2 weeks (since you are 7-on & 7-off), you get paid for 80 hours. You don't get paid 1.5X but a couple of dollars more per hour. I have seen some rph working non-stop and made so much money. He paid back all of his loans and started saving deposits for his house. Not a great idea for a long term, but I would do it for a year or so.

For Walgreens in FL it's the same 10-8 shift but on weekends it's 9-8. You work 72 hours and get paid for 80. You make the same $104K that the day pharmacists make but on your weeks off you have more chances to work overtime (there's the 1.5x pay). But keep in mind you'll be tired ALL THE TIME, even on your weeks off. 7 on 7 off takes a toll on your body if you do it long enough.

We don't have many 24 hr retail pharmacies in N CA, but the few we do have are comparably paid to hospital graveyard - about $3/hr differential.

You gotta be a person who likes nights & thank goodness there are folks out there who do!!!!

At Brooks Pharmacy, at least in Massachusetts, the overnight pharmacists gets paid $5 an hour extra to what they get paid an hour.

They work 12 hour shifts 8pm-8am for 7 days and get the next 7 days off..

great for someone thinking abt squeezing couple OT days midweek... during the week they have off.

Not to mention you have lots of time in your week off for travel! No sense in making all that money if you can't spend it having fun.
