have been falling into a bad pattern of oversimplifying or dumbing down the information from some courses to a disadvantage. I guess my mind just sees the volume as too much and tries to pick out and focus on however much it is convinced it can hold. ((( and that ends up being FAR too little/simple when i pick and choose!! )))

anybody else encountered this problem?? and know how to resolve it?

Most things ARE simple and if they don't appear to be you're probably doing something wrong.

I can't imagine dumbing things down any more then they already do for us in general. Can you be more specific?

mnemonics, USE THEM

They will help you get random information in that you know you won't use in the future.

There's a LOT and I feel like I automatically ignore a certain portion of it. Guess I have to push myself more to learn ALL of it.

You are definitely not alone. I feel like this a lot as well, especially in lecture. When I'm hanging on every detail, I'm not getting the big picture. When I'm focusing on the big pictures, details are escaping me. BAH!!! Oh well.

What does "far too little" mean to you? I'm sure you know that the best person to figure out how to fix how you study is you. Simplifying things isn't a bad thing, though. I don't think so anyway. Getting a big picture perspective is good. But perhaps you're neglecting to fill in the big picture with the small details. Or maybe you're focusing on all the details and missing their significance. Of course, I have no idea where your hang up is. But I don't think there's any kind of intrinsic problem with you. Be mindful of what you're doing when you study and how you're reading, and you'll see over time what you can improve.
