Kaplan's BS Section Tests (the ones that simulate the BS section for the MCAT) are destroying me. I got 75% on the first two, and then 62% on the third one.

I take my test very soon, and I feel like I have a great grasp on all of the organic and biological concepts. Yet these are decimating me >_<

What do you guys think? Are these supposed to make me die inside?

Egos are meant to be broken.

But yes, I took two practice Kaplan tests from the said titled book, and their bio was nuts. I'd just review it thoroughly. You're more likely to gain knowledge from reading the explanations and thinking about what you got wrong.

True that.

Much to our misfortune...

Sounds like you are doing just fine. I agree with btc8 - practice and understand why you answered incorrectly and fix that thought process so you don't get questions like it wrong in the future. Expose yourself to as many practice questions as you can between now and your MCAT date. Your scores are looking pretty good, so by then you'll be solid!

I'm finding Kaplan's PS and BS sections tests _much_ more difficult than the AAMC BS sections. If you look at the number of "Hard" questions in the Smart Reports sections, you'll see that there are usually a much larger percentage of the Kaplan tests than on the AAMC practice tests. Don't focus on the base percentage; if you're doing well score-wise on the AAMC tests, you're on track. 🙂

I've been saying on other threads that Kaplan vastly overprepares you for the MCAT. They teach you more topics and everything is in detail, and if you really follow the syllabus and use all the resources, you could essentially know biological sciences inside and out. BS was usually my best section, partly because I took physiology, neuro, and biochem this year, but also partly because Kaplan BS kicked my butt at first and made me work hard to get better.

I like Kaplan because of that reason: over-preparedness. Sometimes their exams are so nuts that you look at the AAMC practice ones and realize that the latter are much more straightforward.

Many people have run into this. Go to one of the Kaplan threads and you will find that this is very common.

I, too, loved the Kaplan section tests for this reason. As somebody else said, it over prepares you.

I was getting 65-75% on those, too. I ended up doing just fine on the real thing.
