Emory, Grade, Block, 9-2/3

Forgot the hours.
8-12 class MTWF
8-5 R (4 hours of clinical stuff)

Penn,H/P/F,Block,27-31hr/wk

One thing that I overlooked is whether or not you would be required to show up to your med school classes. We're required to go to small group sessions pretty much every day in blocks. Sometimes there are even at 8AM (renal block is notorious for this). If you miss even one for ANY reason, you have to write a multi-page paper. Welcome to the third grade...

i dont think that ucla information is right...

since the new curriculum only has like 2-3 hrs of lecture a day. thats old info on ucla.

its also p/f .

Jlee, you are quickly becoming to UCLA what I am to UPenn. I applaud you! I ordain you the authority on UCLA! May the acceptance soon be with you! 😀

Hey Neuronix!

IMHO, UPenn can do whatever it pleases. It is a phenomenal school (the best ever medical school in my opinion) and if I get in, I would not miss any small discussions because that is definitely one aspect of UPenn's curriculum that I love. I am so nervous about hearing from UPenn in about 3 weeks. Have you heard any more about when acceptances should go out? I have heard from several people (including my fellow UPenn officionado felipe5) that a window from March 6th - 10th was given at interviews. I would really appreciate any confirmation or adjustment to that window. Good luck with everything! ahhhhhhh UPenn, how I love thee! 😍

Last year Penn said March 15th for acceptances. They missed the mark by like a week, and they got so many phone calls that this year they're not giving a firm date. I didn't hear from the MD/PhD program (which had the same deadline) until the beginning of April.

I guess the moral of the story is to hang in there and they'll get around to it when they please. It's just like getting your exam grades back if you join us...

i have no clue why some schools cant be prompt with their decisions...i mean, a lot of us have lots of planning to do once we know where we're going...

im praying so hard that i get into Penn...and they should be able to pick a date and be punctual...this vagueness is annoying!!!

Most schools arent PBL vs Trad, rather they have some amount of PBL in addition to traditional lectures.

Also you should note somewhere that Baylor, Penn have 1.5 years of preclinicals, and Duke has 1 year only.

Baylor doesn't have grades; it's a 4-tier system (unless they changed something) and 3 of the 1st year courses are strictly p/f. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

its true that the first block (fundamentals of biomedical science or whatever the review of biochem etc) is P/F. However the rest of the preclinical is H/HP/P/MP/F (A-F system). Its basically grades at Baylor unfortunately. 🙁

*sigh* well, i guess they changed it then. 🙁

looked it up on the aamc website...it said the 1st 2 years had "4-intervals" for grades (which would maybe be h/hp/p/f? ; clinics have 5-intervals, and the other 3 intro classes are p/f. ) if they made it 5-intervals, well, phooey.
