This is completely hypothetical, I have no plans on doing this lol. I was wondering, if someone were to take all of their classes as P/F except for an easy "A" class and therefore had a 4.0, how would an adcom view that applicant?

😕 Immediate red flag. The applicant better have a darn good excuse for doing so. Further, I don't even think this would be possible in the eyes of the home institution. A common requirement for graduation is a GPA above X.0, and slew of passes would not satisfy that requirement. I would say that zero P/F classes is ideal, and every P/F taken makes your application (very) slightly less ideal.

What is p/f?

The schools are going to see the hypothetical person's grades on everything and will very easily see right through this strategy. If I were on an admissions committee, I wouldn't even look twice at this person's application.

It would hurt you rather than help you. Think about this...how would I and my AdComn members have any way of knowing how you can really perform under the gruelling conditions of medical school?

well you can't take your pre-med requirements pass/fall, at my school you can't take your major or minor pass/fall either so that limits the amount of pass/fall you could take. I took my foreign language classes p/f since I'm horrible at learning languages and no one mentioned anything about it.

Yeah, most schools have limitations on how many classws you can take P/F. My school was similar to meowerton. I think you could only take 3 P/F classes total and none at the same time.

You are stressing out too much about something that you can't control. Relax!

Ironic that med school is just a bunch of P/F classes and they would look down on you for doing that.

Not really. Pre-meds have yet to prove themselves, so it is fitting that they should be compared to other pre-meds (via a curve). Arguably all med students have 'run the guantlet' so there's no point in beating a dead horse. Additionally, it is not in their best interest to flunk out a certain % of their students.

NOT true. Residency directors actually do not like P/F grading systems becauser they do tell anything about a candidate. Most med schools have percentile grading systems of one sort or another.

Even those with P/F eventually mutate them to F/P/HP (high pass or pass with honors).
