P/NC aka Pass-Fail Option
Okay, so I'm taking Chem 1 this semester, and might end-up with a C because I bombed by 3rd exam on the scan-tron. So is it better to finish the course with a C or take the Pass and retake the class next semester?
I have 5 exams in the class: 4 midterms and a Final which is worth twice as much as a midterm.
Exam 1: 100
Exam 2: 86
Exam 3: 68
Please share your advice, I'm very worried and the deadline to choose is tomorrow.

That depends on how confident you are on your own abilities. Do you honestly believe that the 48 is an aberration, or do you think that maybe the class was just getting very hard. Don't answer to me, because it doesn't matter, just answer it to yourself. If you're very confident that the answer is the former, then take the C and ace Chem 2 and Orgo and so on and so on. If you do so, then that C in Chem I will just be a distant memory.

However, if you have a good amount of doubt, then take the pass and retake the class, find out for sure whether you're really up to it.

I see, I understand your point. But in the eyes of the ADCOM what do you think would looks better, a C or a P followed by an A when retaking the course? Disregarding the other courses.

You've only had 3 tests and you've got the equivalent of 3 more (1 more midterm plus the double score final). You've got a 75 right now - it seems to me that it would be easier to bust your hump and excel in the second half of the course and maybe end up with a B+ than to drop and retake. You can cover up that low midterm score by doing well the rest of the semester and ADCOMs won't be the wiser but they'll definitely notice a dropped chem class.
