Hello all,
I am a 2nd year PA student and will be graduating in December. I must choose my only clinical elective soon. It will be only 1 month in duration, so I would like to choose the rotation that would benefit me the most. It is difficult because I am not sure what area I want to practice in.
I am interested in inpatient internal medicine and possibly ortho surgery or ER. Should I do a 1 month surgical subspecialty or I am strongly considering an ICU elective as this would provide with a broad exposure and incorporate aspects of medicine along with surgery/critical care and procedures. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The nature of ICU is systems based, don't you think you would be better off by doing an ICU rotation? You would learn an awful lot in a month's time.

Then again, IM is always a great way to learn medical management & the patients would not be as unstable.

You need to make a list of pros & cons & then go with your gut! 🙂
