I'm a new grad PA looking into a neurosurgical position. Can anyone help with average salaries, average hours/call hours per pay period? Do most PAs in neurosurg get paid extra for on call/overtime or just salary. What do bonuses usually look like and are they based on RVU. I'm a fast learner and the hardest of workers, but I do want to see my family. Thanks!!

I'm a new grad PA looking into a neurosurgical position. Can anyone help with average salaries(Salaries vary widely depending on experience, geographic location and private vs. public. By no means scientific but my guess is the average starting salary out of school is 75 to 80K. Once again there is a huge variation.), average hours/call hours per pay period? (Hours depend on how busy your doc is but 50 to 60/wk is average. Call varies widely. I take call every other week for an entire week at a time. It would be hard to find a worse call situation. How much call really depends on the number of neurosurgeons taking call. Hence, call is usually less in more urban areas.)Do most PAs in neurosurg get paid extra for on call/overtime or just salary. My call/overtime is built into my salary. You will find many variations and some folks to get paid seperately for callWhat do bonuses usually look like and are they based on RVU. (Once again, you will find many situations. My bonus is 10K at the end of the year. Some folks have their bonus based on RVUs)I'm a fast learner and the hardest of workers, but I do want to see my family. If you really want to see your family run away from neurosurgery! Seriously! Thanks!!
Sorry that I can't be more specific but if you want more specific info then the AAPA census is the way to go.
