Hey all! I was just wondering if anyone knew about Pacific University's Master's program in clinical psych. I got turned down for their PsyD program, then was referred to the Master's, and today I got a call that they want to interview me. Since I don't exactly have the funds to fly out there, I think I'd have to interview by phone. Any thoughts or advice?

Hey, i'm in the same boat as you concerning pacific U's master's program. Have you found out anything more about it since you posted?

Hey guys,

I interviewed for Pacific U's PsyD program (not the Master's program), so if you have any specific questions, I'll definitely share my input; I'd think the interviews would be quite similar.

I was very, very impressed with the program - everything seemed really organized and well-established. They focus very strongly on multiculturalism, especially with the Latino demographic, so Spanish as a second language is a plus (they have something called the Iris Center, which is a clinic for those who speak Spanish as a first language).

There are great research opportunities, and even though most PsyD's aren't so interested in research, it's good to know there are options. Most of the practica takes place in the Psychological Services Center, which is completely run by the school if I remember correctly. Most of the clients at the PSC suffer from mental health issues - depression, anxiety, etc. (Another school I interviewed at had their practica at drug rehab centers and facilities for underpriviledged kids, more social work kind of stuff).

Faculty seems great, really friendly and warm. Most of the classes (for the PsyD at least, I'm not sure about the Master's) are in the Health Sciences building, which is a school for psychology, optometry, and dentistry. My impression was that they are primarily CBT, but also incorporate other theoretical orientations for a well-rounded education.

I hope all this info is correct, it was about a month ago that I was there. All in all, it seems like a great school! Hopefully you're still checking back to this thread and that this post is at least a little helpful for you. Good luck!

Hello!!

I applied for the PsyD and was referred to the master's program. It seems like most of the people who have graduated from the PsyD program have also gone through their master's program. There are a few professors who teach in both programs.

I was accepted into the Master's program for Fall 2008 and I decided to accept. I do not want to relocate out of the Portland area. Also, the PsyD program has everything I'm looking for. Eventually, I want to do clinical psych and neuropsych testing with older adults.

If you are also going into the masters program, send me a pm! 🙂
