Hello,
I'm a college grad with some research experience that happens to have an empty schedule through the summer. I really want to do biological science related research over the summer, and I'm looking for a paid position, but I have no idea where to start. I've typed in "research assistant" in job search engines without success. All of the ones I've found so far are for at least 1 year commitments. I'm not getting anything "just for the summer". I'm a big newbie at this.
I hear many people say that they did paid research over the summer, but I can't find these postings anywhere. How should I go about finding these positions? Is it normally posted on the school websites?

Appreciate any help!

Unfortunately, 98% of summer research programs have had their application deadlines end. Just do a google search for summer research programs. Also, many of them are geared towards undergraduates, so I don't know what to tell you as far as the likelihood of you finding something. Good luck though!

I ended up finding a huge thread about summer research programs, you may be right about the deadline, and I can't find any school that's near my residence. I'll search harder, I've just begun looking. I think I missed a key word when searching: "program". Hopefully it helps.
I guess I'll ask here as well. Does anyone know if there are any summer research programs that run from May/June through August in Orange County, CA region (UCI/CSUF/CSUpomona...etc)?

How about programs/internships for college graduates?

I think you will be hard pressed to find someone willing to take on a college grad for just a summer. Will you be able to significantly contribute and make significant progress on a project in 3 months? Maybe, but it is quite unlikely, and some of that time will be needed to train you in new techniques you may not be familiar with/may need to brush up on. Many of the places I applied to wanted at least a 2 year commitment, and I was lucky to find one that would allow me to just work for 1 year.

How about summer research for undergraduates? I am not talking about SURP, but rather a hospital or lab, that does not have a formal program.

Here is the list I posted in the Summer Research Application Thread and I haven’t read the list in a while, but I don't recall a single one saying they would accept students who had graduated or been accepted into a professional program. http://www.fhcrc.org/content/dam/public/education/internships.pdf

Like others have said, it's basically going to impossible to find a summer research gig unless you know someone, and even then most aren't going to pay you to do research in a lab for three months as they would just be paying you to learn new techniques or how their lab does stuff you already know.

Best to spend you summer relaxing or working in some seasonal/retail/food job over the summer if you really need the cash.

You are a graduate, so there's probably nothing without one or two year commitments. A PI doesn't benefit from your inexperience, so probably nobody will pay you.

Yeah, I've looked into it. Seems like most programs with stipends requires you to be enrolled in school. Some are okay with post-bac status applicants but most of these program's deadlines have already past, and are no where near my area.
