First of all I am a IM PGY-1. My question is the potential of obtaining a Pain Management Fellowship after finishing a Rheumatology Fellowship. I really like Rheumatology, but also enjoy pain management. It appears that they kind of meld together anyway, in a sense.
I have looked around through the other threads and through the internet. It appears that Gas, Psych, PM&R, and Neuro have a bit of a monopoly on the subject, but others can still apply. Please enlighten me.

Most rheumatologists are happy to send patients to a pain doc for pain meds and spine injections. If you are a busy rheumatologist and like rheumatology you'll have more than enough work just taking care of rheum problems (RA, gout, SLE, non-surgical OA, scleroderma, etc). Trying to combine multiple things in one practice is just complicated and inefficient and keeps you from doing the things that only you are able to do
