Hi everyone, I'm kind of new here and this is my first post on the non-trad forums. I saw that a few people went the RN to MD route and I was wondering if there were any paramedics on here who had done the same thing. Did you find that being a paramedic was viewed positively by the people who interviewed you or did they not really care much for it? Did they even know the difference between medic and EMT? Did any schools seem to be particularly paramedic-friendly or unfriendly? I know from working that some doctors gave us a lot of respect while others viewed us as little more than well-trained monkeys. Anyway, good luck to all the other old fogeys in the application process. Hey, at least by the time we finish, our patients will assume that we've been doctors for many years.

Just is my class alone there are at least 4 paramedics (including myself). Some schools love 'em, some hate 'em. I find most physicians have no clue what a paramedic can do or has been trained to do unless the doc works in an ER - and even then they are generally not well informed. It is very dependent upon the hospital and the involvement of their physicians in the EMS departments of the hospital.

I think if you want to make that your "thing" on your app, you better explain it well and be prepared for ignorance. On the brighter side, many docs seem impressed when they learn what we really do. Especially if you've had 'em as residents in your ambulance. 🙂
