Some of these prices are insane. My undergrad (smaller university in Flagstaff) had parking permits for about $350/year (they are up to over $400 now 😱).
With those permits, you were very limited on where you could park. I was a resident on central campus so I could only park in the central campus resident spots (2 or 3 small parking lots). If I parked in any other lot, I would get a ticket. I used to park in front of the student union... there was this spot that was not designated handicapped, for university staff and did not have a meter in front of it and you did not need a permit in this lot only to pay the meter. I loved that little parking spot because I could not get a ticket... you can't pay a non-existent meter..
At UGA, it's the same. We pay for a certain parking lot and have to park there. We could try to get a second permit, but that's difficult with having huge waitlists for them.
As stated NCSU was $318 and I think totally worth it (though there is free parking right across the street). Compared to the $550 to park on campus (when I lived on campus) in undergrad, it was totally worth it. Our parking tickets in undergrad were $50-100 too.

At my undergrad, you were allowed one parking permit. You could not buy more than one so you had better pick the lot in which you will be parking in the most and then walk across campus if you need to.
