Can I keep my car and live on campus at Einstein? Does the school offer parking spaces for students? Is there a nearby lot that students use?

Pretty sure there is a lot for $80/month if I remember correctly. An actual student may want to chime in.

Yea, and you only have to drive to and from the city 3 times to be over 80 dollars when factoring tolls! Plus you get a great view of the skyline as you wait an hour in traffic to get in!

Eighty bucks a month sounds pretty cheap for NYC. 😉 (My garage space in Jamaica Estates back in the day was like $130 a month.)

Yea, where I live now its 180 a month. A parking space would make living deep in the Bronx much easier. Especially if it's a bargain space for eighty bucks! Can any einstein students confirm this eighty dollar parking and give details about it?

its 80 bucks a month, attached to your housing (so you don't have to go outside during the winter) and of course the housing is right next to the school (so you can wake up 10 minutes before class and still make it)

The parking + rent here is un-freakin-beatable compared to the surrounding area. 🙂

Zebalong, am I guaranteed a parking spot? And is it assigned or do you have to search for spots. Is the garage/lot open all night etc? Thanks for the info. Yea 360 a month for rent in nyc is outrageous.

No assigned but there is always a spot, yes it is guaranteed. Many students, like myself, don't use a car... the school provides car service to get to all of the clinical sites so why bother using your own? =P. Its open all night/day 24/7, completely secure.

On a related note, how inconvenient is it to be car-less? How close are things like grocery store, pharmacy, movie theater, etc...?

Normally, being in NYC means you can rely on public trans. However, I believe that area of the Bronx is where you're better off having a nice, used car 🙂

ditto the nice used car part
its not a good idea to be driving a Mercedes benz there lol

Actually i am from the bronx and do not live too far from the hospital, and more ppl have expensive cars than cheap ones just a fun fact for you

Parking fees are actually 85 a month, there's a $200 deposit, 85 of which goes to your first month. There is always more than enough parking to go around, so no reservations/first come first served things happen. As mentioned before, the garage is directly connected to all three apartment buildings, so super convenient.

Imo, you don't need parking to get around and go out into the city. There's the 6 and 2/5 train nearby which is a 20 minute walk or a 10 minute bus ride to get to. There's a moderately priced supermaket 3 minutes down the street from Einstein, and a pricier organic produce market across the street.

Most people do not have cars, though I have one and find it worth the cost. Sometimes it's nice to study in a random place or have a quick getaway =). There's also a bunch of cool libraries/shops north of the Bronx in Westchester.

For the students that don't have cars, are Zipcars readily available? Are they used often? I know Einstein is a Zipcar location, but how does this translate into real use?
