Just trying to see how people work this out and how hard was it to get a job as an EMT while still in full time college. I've been thinking about taking the class this semester to be EMT cert. Do you just do it on weekends or what? Thanks for ANY info!

take the class, you need weekends towards the end of your class for clinicals/ride alongs. i worked as an EMT volunteer on my campus, and then worked full time over the summers. but i knew some kids who worked once a week on a saturday or something...if you can fit it in, by all means do it. good luck.

Being an EMT was one of the smartest moves I made in college. I was able to work over the summer, and my school had a kickass collegiate EMS squad I volunteered in and got some good leadership experience in. Actually, my EMT-Intermediate class starts Monday.

Here's to sticking people with needles!

I was on call with the local ambulance company (Town) on Sunday nights and Friday during the days (its always fun to run out of class when the pager goes off)...Its a great way to get involved in the community you live and I highly recommend it...

Thanks for the info. One thing I am wondering on...

What is "Current CPR for Healthcare Provider " and what do I need to meet this Requirement?

The class looks pretty good. I might be able to ride a fire truck! wohoo!

How is the class overall? Do you think I will have to spend alot of time studying for it? I should learn most of it their since its 13.5 hours a week!

If anybody has taken it please chime in!

CPR for Health Care Professionals was included in my EMT-B class. As far as time goes, it's a lot of class time, but not too much studying. A lot of it is pretty much common sense. You learn some anatomy, a few drugs, a couple techniques, nothing too difficult. If you find yourself struggling through EMT class, that might be a sign that MD is not for you 🙂

So maybe I missed this above, since I didn't actually read the above posts but......

My bro was asking me today if EMT-B's can work weekends only. Does anyone know the answer to this question????//

Depends on the EMT-B's employer.

Nah, guju, you can work whenever your employer can give you shifts.

I work part-time as an EMT, and it works great. Because the shifts are 24 hours, I can fit in plenty of hours without hacking my schedule to pieces to fit it in there. Last semester, I worked most Fridays (no class on Friday) and a few other days of the week when there were openings (I worked PRN).
