Hi all,

just a little background intro abt myself. I got a BS in computer science, MS in biomedical eng. from universities in UK, done a whole lot of maths and physics but no chemistry. last time i touched a chemistry book was back in high school. so I'd definitely need to complete chemistry prereqs in America and I seriously doubt US med schools are willing to accept my foreign academic credits in physics and maths. So i am prepared to take all prereq courses.

to further complicate my situation, I am working as biomedical researcher in this country on work visa therefore I must maintain full-time "worker" status, but I do plan to apply for permanent residency soon. so after doing some research on local unis and colleges, UCLA extension program seems to fit my schedule coz they have weekend and night classes. Their prereqs science courses are, in my opinion, not very structured and organized. So i am wondering whether med school admission will recognize the prereqs done through UCLA extension.

I havent inquired abt the possibility of part-time postbac at schools like scripps college, loyola marymont, chapman, USC. These schools claim they do offer part time but have little information abt it on their websites. I will definitely need to check them out before settling on UCLA.

Is anyone in the same boat as me? or heard of someone's situation like mine? advice welcome

many thanks

Hi,

I'm sorry that I don't know anyone quite in your situation. However, I would strongly recommend sticking with UCLA extension if you can. Whether it is right or wrong, American schools tend to look down on/know little about schools in the UK and other countries (other than OxBridge). With undergrad as a question mark in the eyes of adcoms, it would be best to have postbac coursework from the most reputable school possible. I would think that UCLA may be a little cheaper than other schools, even for non-CA residents.

In particular, I would stay away from Chapman. I have heard a little bit about it and don't have much respect for their programs. It is just barely accredited.

Good luck!
