You won't Participate in Journal Club? Have a broken some cardinal rule of the EM board? Did I pick an uninteresting topic? Or maybe I shouldn't have tried it because I haven't matched in EM yet? I just want to be helpful and learn. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Just reply and tell me to F**k off and I won't bother you with my academic drivel again...

EPs don't have the attention span to read JC articles - that's why "academic EM" is an oxymoron! :meanie:

I think people just don't go to that board...

I might be minimizing/simplifying, but a patient with back pain/injury and a new and severe neurological deficit will probably have a consultant driven course. Obviously, the more I know the better I can do my job.

But that was part of my point. It wasn't well-emphasized in the article, but there is growing evidence that early, aggressive treatment may spare patients a lifetime in a wheelchair as paraplegics. Thus, if we can diagnose this in the ED, it could make a difference between a full recovery and significant loss of quality of life. 👍

Just my 2cents, but maybe if we posted brief discussions of some of the LLSA articles (the ones we are tested on) it might b helpful...

ok, I will be your scut-puppy! I will do the following from the 2006 LLSA list this week:

Thielman NM, Guerrant RL. Acute infectious diarrhea. N Engl J Med. Jan 2004;350(1):38-46.

Look forward to your participation on the board! 😀

P.S. Can I put this on my residency application? 😛

anything on projectile diarrhea while you're at it? 😉
