I'm in Evolution/Ecology currently, and that's the class that I'm considering pass/fail. It's one of those classes where the concepts are easy to understand, but the professor words the exams to create a certain average. Should I pass/fail this class or risk a C? I have yet to make anything below a B- so far, and I'm a sophomore.

How do dental school admissions view pass/fail versus a C?

Have you considered just getting an A? That is what I recommend.

Passing a P/F class is going to be better for you than a C for a course like evolution (which isn't a pre-req or a recommended course for most (any?) d-schools). It won't hurt your GPA. Taking a bunch of classes P/F can be a red flag, but one or two (again, in courses that aren't really considered relevant to your dental education) shouldn't be a big deal, whereas a C is always going to hurt you no matter what it's in.

Thanks. This was very helpful.

Yeah, I don't think a P/F class would be a big deal. If my school offered this option, I'd definitely take a humanities class as a P/F and not worry about it looking bad.

If I were you, I would take the C and only pass/fail if I were running a C- or was on the brink of a D+.

But, the truth of the matter is that I am not you, and I am me...with that being said, I would go for the A and nothing below that A...go big or go home 🙂
