I got my IM grade back a couple weeks ago and it was only a pass, despite scoring 97th percentile on the shelf exam. I know it was due to my poor standardized patient exam score and slightly below average evaluations (combination of personal family drama/burnout/poor luck with assigned attendings on the rotation).
I don't have my step 1 score yet, but have consistently done very well on standardized tests in the past so hoping to get 250+. I go to a top 20 school and am doing research with a well known professor in the competitive field of my interest (not derm or plastic surgery level, but high up there) and will likely have 2-3 publications by the time I apply for residency. I only care about matching *somewhere* for my intended specialty. How bad does this pass look and what can I do to compensate for it?
