I'm an MS3 who just got a pass in internal medicine (and obgyn as well). I'm quite worried that I've about ruined my chances of applying to ophtho. My step I was 247, I'm at a top 15 med school, and I've done some research. I realize that I should probably not screw up in surgery and pediatrics coming up and that I should apply broadly. I'm just wondering if a pass is as terrible as I think it is...

I wouldn't sweat it. You have a good step 1 score and it seems like you've been putting time into research, so as long as you honor a few clerkships and get outstanding letters, you'll get interviews from competitive programs.

try to do as well as you can on the rest. You'll do fine come sf match.

I've been wondering the exact same thing! I have very similar stats/research, but I received a Pass in surgery, and the only honors I have are Ophtho and Neurology.. (rest HP). Medicine is in progress, then only OB/Peds left.. how much does not honoring all these kill an application? (even with good board score, research, good LOR's)

Agreed guys, don't sweat it. do your best going forward, but I know people who have gotten passes in medicine and surgery and still made it into quite nice programs.

Have you seen this thread? There are only a few responses, but there is a wide range in grades.

Don't worry about your grades, especially if the rest of your application is strong. And applying broadly is a good idea for anyone no matter what their application is -- you only want to go through this process once!

Funny cause I didn't honor medicine or ob, and I matched decently.
