I took the NAPLEX for the 4th time mid-August and passed with 90. I know it’s been a while but I still want to share my experience because I know it will be an encouragement to someone.
The first 2 attempt I used RXprep, and the last 2 attempt, I used passnaplexnow. I graduated from a very good US based school and hardly could I believe I will fail the naplex even once. You know how it is when you fail! You don’t want to talk to another one, I mean it’s so frustrating!
Everyone say NAPLEX is easy. That’s not true! Some people will tell you they studied for 2 weeks, etc. I don’t really know if that’s right because I was misled by some of those statements, in my first attempt.
In my first attempt, I studied RXprep for 3 weeks, thinking it was going to be easy as I heard most people say, but that wasn’t the case. I got lots of questions that were so strange. Thinking it was because I didn’t study well enough, for the second attempt I decided to study for 3 months, about 10 to 12 hours daily. I still used RXprep, i.e. the book and Qbank. Went over the book 4 times and Qbank 3 times. Thought I was going to pass but failed- scored below 50. Then I knew I needed to make some changes. After lots of thoughts and analysis, I realized that RXprep is a very good resource but wasn’t what I needed to pass this exam. Once I got to say chapter 30, I forget everything from the beginning. I realized it’s lots of information that was too hard for me to retail all.
Unfortunately, I realized this after failing for 2 times despite all my hard work. Then I started thinking of what to use for the third attempt. Couldn’t talk to any one because it’s so humiliating. I found myself telling friends good sweet lies that I passed but didn’t want to start working yet. I do not wish any one to fail this exam because it’s a terrible feeling.
While I was browsing through the internet thinking of an alternate material to use, I came across passnaplexnow. Read through a couple reviews and watched sample videos on the web. What I saw and heard sounded interested and decided to call the number on their page. I left a message and my call was returned my Dr. Ali. After speaking with him, my mind was made up to go for it.
Now for the 3rd time I studied passnaplexnow for 3 months. If I had followed Dr. Ali’s advice completely on how to study, I could have passed the 3rd time. I can still remember him telling me to first make sure I know everything in their material before using any other material as add on, but I didn’t do that. I went through the lectures like 3 times, PowerPoint slides like 3 times, then I got mixed up and didn’t go through all their Qbank, instead I used RXprep Qbank. I actually made flash cards for all missed questions in RXprep Qbank and went over everything 3 times. Scored 72! You can see, from <50 to 72. I really felt bad I missed by few points.
For the 4th time, I decided to stick with passnaplexnow for everything. Studied for 10 to 12 hours daily for about 2 months. I started by going through the lecture videos twice. That is, I will go over each topic say HTN, then answer the Qbank for that chapter. For the big guns like HTN, Chemo, HIV, etc., I went over the Qbank an additional 2 times, making a total of 4 times. I also took the practice tests. It’s easy to go over passnaplexnow within 2 weeks if you are focus, avoiding distractions. That was exactly what I did.
For Math in addition to passnaplexnow math, I also did SND 120 found on this website. That was really helpful. I encourage everyone to do same. Daily I will solve like 40 questions.
For Biostat, in addition to passnaplexnow, I used RXprep and a little book I bought at ACCP website call clinical pharmacist’s guide to biostatistics and literature evaluation. It’s blue in color. I love this book because it has lots of questions and answers after each chapter, and well explained. I knew Biostat is a huge part of the exam so I wanted to make sure I knew everything I needed to know.
For compounding, passnaplexnow lectures, Qbank and powerpoint slides were very sufficient. Just make sure you understand every statement. I mean understand not memorized. NAPLEX wants us to know the reasons behind everything we use.
Couple of days before the exam, I took pre-naplex and scored 80 and in the real naplex 90. I have not only passed but passnaplexnow have helped me become a good pharmacist as I learned lots of easy way used to remember disease state, side effects, contraindication, box warning, I mean a lot! Lots of easy ways to remember stuff. While writing, for some questions, I visualized Dr. Golden explaining that concept or that PowerPoint slide in the book and easily eliminated the wrong ans.
I’m so happy I passed finally. Thanks to passnaplexnow. I wish I had used this resource during my first attempt, I couldn’t have spent all the money, time and delayed in getting a job.
If you are like me that is, if you need a resource more comprehensive and straight to the point, try passnaplexnow but If you do not have a problem with that, RXprep is still a very good resource.
RXprep didn’t just work for me and I wish I had known.
Finally, when you study do say a little prayer to your God. I do believe God answers prayers!
Just wanna encourage you, if I can do it, you too can do it.
Best of luck guys!
