has any one ever herd of americans going to foreign schools (mexico etc) and never passing the US boards. My father went to Universidad del noreste in mexico graduated in 1987 took him years to pass the boards ........he has friends who are still trying to pass the USMLE!!!!!!!!!!!!, apparently from what i have gathered this is somewhat common. We actually know someone who graduated medical school 18 years ago in hati and just passed step 1 and 2 she has been working as a resp therapist in the US all this time and never able to pass. She matched into IM in philly

anyone else hear about cases like this

Yes, I have heard of several cases like that. I know that for some people it has taken 6-7 times to pass USMLE step I.
That is amazing that some people keep trying after 18 years! I know cases of 4 years but nothing like 18 years!
That just proves perseverance on their part.

yes, I have heard stories too....I know a guy who took step 1 at least 4 times and didn't pass.....very intelligent, always helping other students...he knew all the answers...but for some odd reason he couldn't pass step 1 and to tell you the truth I still don't know if he passed step 1 or not....but I also know about people that passed step 1 the very first time...these students went to school in Mexico.... :luck:
