Hello everyone,

I am taking my DAT really soon aka 3 days. Haha. I was wondering if there's time beforehand to write down the Hole Punching and Cube Counting charts on the scratch paper that they're going to give at the testing center? I really do not want to use 1 minute to write all the charts down (every second counts!)
Also, if anyone has any last minute tips as I use these last 2 days to study, please let me know! Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately, you will not be able to create the charts or anything for that matter, prior to the start of the test. It is part of the standardization process and therefore you really do not want to risk doing anything that is disallowed.

I usually recommend students to blaze through the cube-counting, hole-punching, and angle-ranking sections of the PAT so that the extra time needed to draw the t-tables/grids is not a hindrance.

Seeing as how you only have a couple days left to prepare, i would not think that stepping up the generator game and building up your speed would be effective at this point. And you may not even have an issue with speed. Regardless, my advice would be to actually take at least the day before the exam off. And by 'off', i mean no DAT practice whatsoever. Literature in the field of neuroscience has shown that giving the mind a break can actually strengthen neural connections made during studying. That and a good nights sleep should just about do it.

Make sure to update us in a few days and let us know how it went 🙂

It’s a really good idea to have a strategy when going into the PAT section. Think about which sections you can get through fastest and which sections of the PAT that you will take the longest to complete. I personally take the longest to complete keyholes (as do most people). So when I took my DAT a few days ago I skipped through this section and started with TFE. When I was all finished with every section except keyholes, I went back and finished them.

If you have extra time when you’re finished with the science section I think you should be able to use it to draw all of your charts. It was also really helpful to know before hand that when you get to the first question for each section of the PAT (keyholes, TFE, etc.) there will be a little walkthrough/tutorial. Skip through these little tutorials since they use up your time, don’t bother with them (unless it’s actually your first time doing the PAT section).

Also, if you have time you should retake at least one or two of your Bootcamp PAT tests (assuming you have bootcamp) or any PAT test if you have it. I found it to be really helpful to retake a few of mine and focus on my speed. Try to get through angle ranking, cube counting, and hole punching as fast as possible!

It can vary by testing center. Some will let you write during the brief "tutorial" period before the actual exam, others will take issue with it. Try to ask ahead of time to be safe.

During my DAT, I just made one chart for cube counting, one chart for hole punching, and just erased using my black hoodie

Good luck ! From what you posted it looks like you will be taking the DAT tomorrow!

Wishing you the best!

This! Mine did not and said they will disqualify any exams where a student pre writes stuff. They had a video camera at my place so don't think you get away with it either if they don't allow it.

I agree they do have cameras in the testing centers, and there are very strict policies. I have been involved with students who have been contacted by the ADA after taking the DAT reporting a violation they saw on a camera. Their score was voided and they had to retake. Do not take any chances, find this out in advance. Better safe than sorry.

Hello everyone!

I just got back from the testing center and I did pretty well (not stellar, but I'm happy, haha). Thank you all for your advice and your help. I did have extra time on the natural sciences section to draw in my hole punching grids and t tables for cube counting, so I'm glad that I didn't have to waste time for the hour of PAT.

Shahed,
PATBooster is seriously a must for anyone taking the DAT. Your generators and practice tests prepared me so well, I literally passed through TFE with no struggle whatsoever. Your tutorials on cube counting and hole punching made my life so much easier too. Thank you for making PATBooster, it saved my life.

orgoman,
Thank you for making DAT Destroyer. Helped me a BUNCH for Gen Chem and O-Chem. I wish I had time to do the Biology questions, perhaps it would've boosted my score for Biology. 🙁 Math Destroyer helped me a lot too preparing for QR. I also wish I had the time to watch your full playlist on Youtube for QR, they were great!

Nevertheless, thank you everyone again for your support. 🙂

Congratulations, Excellent scores! Bio is VAST and an 18 is fine! Your other scores are consistent with a HUGE 25 in Orgo. Wishing you the best and I do hope you get into the Dental school you desire.

Celebrate, you faced the DAT Beast and won!

Wishing you all the best!
